Steve Snyder, Jim Miller and Luther Orton were all singled out as Super Lawyers of 2004, a rigorously researched list of the top 5% of attorneys, as chosen by their peers in a survey of more than 56,000 lawyers across Northern California.

Law & Politics Magazine surveyed 377,500 attorneys in 2004 to find Super Lawyers in nine states. All three attorneys are noted in the competitive Business Litigation area. Luther Orton is additionally listed in the Antitrust, General, and Securities Ligitation areas.

On its superlawyers.com website, Law & Politics describes how lawyers come to receive the honor:

"Ballots are sent to all attorneys licensed in the state (in California, Northern and Southern regions are surveyed separately). Attorneys nominate the best lawyers they have personally observed in action.

"Researchers keep track of who votes for whom, and watch for any evidence of ballot manipulation in the results. The L & P staff also conducts research on each nominee, reviews credentials and assigns points based upon a variety of criteria.

"The lawyers are divided according to approximately 60 areas of practice. Each lawyer receives positive or negative points as a result of a blue ribbon panel evaluation. The point totals from the general survey, screening process and blue ribbon panel review are added to arrive at a point total."
