Since 1998, Peter Meringolo has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of commercial and technology related disputes. These disputes have involved breach of license and research & development agreements, business torts, patent infringement, governmental and third party subpoenas, consumer fraud, antitrust, and insurance coverage issues.

Peter has represented clients in both state and federal courts as well as in ADR proceedings. Peter’s clients have included individuals, start-up technology companies, and Fortune 500 companies from diverse market segments – consumer product companies, retailers, biotechnology companies, satellite television providers, energy companies and traders, internet service providers, microchip manufacturers, insulation manufacturers, and airplane engine manufacturers.

Recognizing that along with the privilege of practicing law comes the responsibility of assisting the community, Peter has participated in a variety of community service activities, including co-leading a former law firm’s Domestic Violence Pro Bono Program (for which the firm received the Domestic Violence Leadership Award from the Commission on the Status of Women), representing an HIV+ man from El Salvador in an application for asylum, representing parents seeking medical coverage for their terminally ill child, and assisting in fund raising events for the Embarcadero YMCA.

Peter received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1991 and his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings in 1998. At Hastings, Peter served as Senior Executive Editor of the Hastings Law Journal. Prior to joining SMO, Peter was an associate at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco and Gilbert, Heintz & Randolph in Washington, D.C. Peter and his wife, Joyce Raffo, live in Marin County with their three sons, Nicolas, Luke and Mark. Peter is an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
